For anyone who carries an FN 509, FN 510, or FN 545 daily along Florida’s salt air, this tool solves one of the most frustrating maintenance headaches: the stubborn front locking block pin.

Standard methods involving a hammer and drift punch often slip, damage the frame, or require multiple frustrating attempts. This punch uses a captured internal spring mechanism to deliver a controlled, repeatable shock load directly to the pin face. When properly aligned inside the recommended Apex Disassembly Fixture, a single pull-and-release of the hammer rings transfers enough energy to pop the pin free in just a few impacts. No more bruised knuckles or misplaced hammer swings on an oily workbench.

The design is corrosion-resistant, which matters when your gear lives in a humid safe, a center console, or a range bag that sees beach sand. The anvil rings and hammer rings are oversized for a secure grip even with sweaty or gloved hands. The body is constructed from hardened steel with a finish that stands up to Florida humidity without rust spotting.

How to use this punch correctly (always wear eye protection and clear all ammunition from your workspace first):

• Unload and field strip your FN pistol per factory instructions.
• Remove the take-down lever from the frame.
• Place the frame into the correct Apex Disassembly Fixture for your model.
• Set the fixture on a solid surface — over a workbench leg or on a concrete floor works best.
• Insert the 3/32″ punch tip into the top hole of the fixture, lowering it until it contacts the front locking block pin.
• Hold the anvil rings firmly with one hand to keep the punch aligned and the fixture steady.
• With your other hand, grasp the hammer rings and stretch the spring parallel to the punch shaft — approximately 2 inches of stretch is sufficient.
• Release the hammer. The spring pulls the hammer down onto the anvil, sending a shockwave through the pin.
• Check pin and fixture alignment after each strike. Repeat as needed — several impacts may be required to fully drive the pin free.
