Description
If you own an FN 509 or an FNS Compact, the most difficult part of routine disassembly is getting that unlocking block pin out. This fixture from Apex changes the whole process by holding your pistol frame in a precise, stable position so you can drive the pin out cleanly. No more fighting the frame, no more slipping punches, and no more risk of gouging your polymer. At $25, it is the single most useful tool you can put on your bench for this platform.
How it works: The fixture cradles the frame and provides a hardened steel guide that aligns a pin punch exactly with the unlocking block pin. You simply set the frame into the fixture, insert the punch through the guide, and give it one firm strike. The pin comes out straight, every time. This eliminates the guesswork and the frustration of trying to hold the frame steady while you swing a hammer.
Critical usage note: This fixture transfers the striking force directly into whatever surface it sits on. You must use it on a solid, immovable surface—a vise anvil, a concrete floor, or a heavy workbench positioned directly over a table leg. Do not use it on a kitchen table, countertop, or any hollow-core furniture. Those surfaces flex and absorb the impact, which prevents the pin from moving and can damage your frame. A stable foundation is non-negotiable for this tool to work as designed.
Important fitment and condition note: This fixture is machined specifically for the FN 509 and the FNS Compact. It will not work with other FN models. Additionally, if the face of your front unlocking block pin is already peened over or damaged from previous failed attempts, this fixture will not correct that problem. You will need to dress the end of the pin flat with a file or stone before you attempt to drive it out. The fixture is a precision alignment tool, not a pin-repair tool. We do not guarantee it will prevent damage to your frame if the pin is already deformed.
